Small Habits Lead to Long-Term Benefits
Your EV's battery is at the heart of every journey you take. The good news? A few simple everyday habits can help maintain battery health and performance for years to come.
If you’re the driver who drives a VinFast VF3, VF5, VF6, MPV7, or another VinFast EV, these practical tips, inspired by recommendations from VinFast engineers, can help you get the most from your vehicle.
1. Drive Smoothly Whenever Possible
Instant EV acceleration is fun. But frequent hard acceleration requires the battery to release energy rapidly, which can generate additional heat and increase stress on the battery over time.
That doesn't mean you can't enjoy VinFast's full potential. It simply means that smoother and steadier driving can help support battery health, improve its efficiency, and maximize driving range.
Your battery and your range will thank you for it.
2. Choose the Right Charger for Your Needs
Not all fast charging is the same, and understanding the difference helps you make better decisions for your battery's long-term health.
VinFast classifies chargers at 120kW and above as Super Fast Chargers (SFC). While incredibly convenient in urgent situations, high-power charging generates heat more quickly inside the battery, and heat is one of the biggest factors affecting battery longevity.
For everyday charging, VinFast engineers recommend using a DC 60kW charger as your regular go-to. It strikes the right balance between charging speed and battery care. Save the SFC for when you genuinely need to top up in a hurry.
3. Keep Your Battery Cool When Possible
Warm weather is a staple of daily life in the Philippines, and prolonged heat exposure is one of the key factors that affects battery health over time. VinFast engineers recommend keeping battery temperature below 40°C whenever possible, as extended periods above this threshold can impact long-term performance.
Parking in shaded or covered areas whenever possible helps reduce heat build-up, even when the vehicle isn't in use. It's a small habit that benefits both your battery and your cabin comfort when you return to the car.
4. Keep Your Battery in a Comfortable Range
For daily driving, many EV owners find it helpful to keep their battery charge between 20% and 80% whenever practical.
Allowing the battery to run very low too often, or keeping it fully charged at 100% for extended periods, may contribute to additional battery ageing over time. Maintaining a charge level within the 20-80% range can help support long-term battery health while still providing plenty of range for daily travel.
For daily use, charging to 80% is generally sufficient for most driving needs. If you're preparing for a longer road trip, charging beyond 80% may be appropriate to ensure you have the range you need.
5. Prepare Your EV for Longer Breaks
If you plan to leave your vehicle parked for an extended period, it's a good idea to ensure the battery remains at 30% or higher.
Keeping a moderate state of charge during long periods of inactivity can help maintain battery health and ensure your EV is ready to go when you're ready to drive again.
Small Changes Drive Big Benefits
None of these habits require major changes to your routine. But over time, they can help support battery performance, maximize efficiency, and contribute to a great ownership experience.
